I had heard about Norske Nook through my workplace and was curious about going one day. As I was heading through Eau Claire en route to MN for Thanksgiving, my mom and I decided to give this place a try. From the rustic look of the restaurant to the comfort food they offer, this place was nice to try out. I had a bison burger with fries and Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice Soup and a root beer. Wow, what a meal. It was tasty and just the right amount. My mom had a salad and then planked salmon which she clams was one of the best shes ever had. She washed that down with a local brew (Bubba's beer as they call it). We both tried a piece of their pie...my mom had the ligonberry and apple, I tried the cherry crumble....a great ending to an excellent meal. I'd gladly go back here if I were in the area or would also like to try their Osseo location. The service was a tad slow due to a shortage of help, but we didn't mind. Our waitress was very helpful and a pleasure to talk to.

To start the food was awful. Blah appetizers (quesadillas and cheese curds). The $20 medium ribeye I ordered was less than 1/4 inch think and well done. My brothers A1 burger was a cooked frozen patty smothered in A1 to hide any of the other flavor. Service was worse. I got my first beverage and was empty when the food arrived and did not get a refill or see our waitress again until the check. The beer I did try was ok but nothing to write home about. Waitresses excuse "prom dress emergency".

Probably the worst brewery I've ever been to. We went on Mother's Day this year and yes it was busy. We were told 45 min to an hour wait which was no problem for us because we just wanted to try the beer so we sat at the bar. I noticed two unbussed tables when we walked in and a half hour later when we left those same two tables had still not been seated. I just felt bad for everyone waiting. We got a flight. All the beer was terrible, we couldn't even finish the 4 ounce pours between the two of us. But what rubbed me the wrong way was they were out of one beer and instead of asking what we would like to replace it, the bartender replaced it with the maibock on special for $1 a pint. Hey thanks. Don't waste your time.

Okay, after almost a year away from this place, we decided to give it another shot. Went in on Friday night, March 6th. Ordered a beer, and asked for a menu. Asked the bartender what the Friday special was. "All you can eat cod, 11.99" Told her I would take two, one of them with three pieces, one with two pieces. I was told that they do not do the all you can eat special to go, but I was welcome to order there regular three piece cod dinner to go. It was 12.99. Now, I understand not doing the all you can eat to go, someone could order 12 pieces of fish. But I wanted a total of 5 pieces for two dinners, 1 less than if I would have ordered two of their 3 piece dinners. But they insisted I would have to pay $2 more than the special price. I went someplace else.

We decided to try this restaurant and there were lot of going on at the restaurant. First of all, the environment was not that great, interior was decent but the lighting are horrible, so dark and gloomy especially for the bar area where they have red light and its so drappy and back-room feeling. We were assigned to sit on the center "island" table with high stool chairs...the chairs were not that comfortable and unable to rest our feet on either stool or the table because of th walls under the table completely block and we cannot put our feet/legs under the table. We had to bend our body futher to the table in order to grab the drink and food. The restaurant have many waiters and staffs but our waiter had to serve almost entire the restaurant while otger employees stood by near the bar/kitchen and did nothing. There was a table next to us was not cleaning up after 25 minutes (yes we clocked it and watched the staffs what they did.) The bartender was so obnoxious and loud when talk with customers, we were so distracting by their conversation, what happened to the inside voice? The food arrived and delivered by other staff, not our waiter but our waiter told the staff which plate belong to, then I asked about where is my soup that I ordered to come with the meal. The waiter asked this staff to bringing out the soup but this staff walked away and ignored the waiter. The waiter had to apologize to us but I told her it was not her fault, the staff was a completely a**hole and a douchebag. Waiter had to go and get the soup and bring it to me. What's wrong with this ridiculous lazy a** staffs and bartender? I think the manger need to kick their ass and tell them to step up and give the customers a better service but again, I doubt that they will do anything about it. The food was less than "OK"..not all ood are hot or very flavorful...most are under seasonings. I will not recommendation for people to go there except for the beers were good.

Great place to have Norwegian food and tasty beer! Their cheese curds are always spot on. Recommend getting the cheese curds as an appetizer, since my only complaint is the wait for your food! We have been there for dinner on a weekend and lunch on a Tuesday and there is always a wait of about 30-45 mins for food. The pies are really good. Def great to take home for dessert. Great family environment setting. Recommended anyone and everyone to go.

Stopped at Northwoods on way home from Madison. They had excellent microbrew choices and for the first time ever found a brewery with a decent light beer! Way to go Northwoods. They had and appetizer special that was cheap and excellent food! Do not know why they only had a 3 star rating. Glad we stopped because we usually don't with a 3 star.

Have had sketchy food prior but tonight was great. Tuesday 2-1 burgers and the garden burger on a cranberry wheat bread was amazing. Also enjoyed a summer razzade drink. For $10 great meal and service.

My wife and I are big fans of Norske Nook, home of prize winning pies and that Norwegian staple: lefse. Heading home today we didn't have the time to cruise on to Osseo so we stopped here. No lutefisk on the menu: thank God. That stuff is toxic! I very much like the ambiance of this place: not the big brew tanks but the restaurant portion with northwoods decor and a nice view of a snow covered pond outside the window. They have a big fireplace and a few embers were still going so it smelled like a northwoods cabin: I love that smell! Our server, Heidi, was pleasant and efficient. I had the salmon lefse wrap: very good salmon and a good amount of it too: 4/5 stars. I tried my wife's cranberry stuffed french toast: 5/5 stars. I had a side of fries; a lot of them: 5/5. Of course we had the Norske Nook pie, made on site. I had lingonberry apple mmm - mmm good (5/5). I tried my wife's cherry crunch pie: 4/5. They didn't have NA beer. Their menu has a pretty good variety but nothing that sounded unique or possibly gourmet (compared with Great Dane in Wausau). Prices and daily specials seem very reasonable. Total bill $32.42 As one reviewer noted there are two entries for this restaurant and bar; I chose this one because the spelling and URL match their website.

Overall okay. Service was very slow considering they weren't busy. Cheese curds, root beer and apple pie were very good.

The service here is excellent, but the food is very disappointing. We had visited the Norske Nook in Osseo a few years back and loved the fresh pie, so we made a point of stopping here, even though it's in a mall and attached to a brewpub. They made a point of telling us the pies were the same, but they were *awful*... far too sweet (and I say this as someone with a sweet tooth!), bland, and very, very gummy. We had the mocha cream pie (tasteless and with the texture of old, rubbery cream cheese) and the lingonberry apple pie, which tasted like something from an elementary school cafeteria (and I don't mean a good one)--achingly sweet, with no tartness from the lingonberries, and clearly more than a few days old. Also rubbery. What a disappointment! When we were leaving, we noticed that they were advertising a slice of pie and coffee for $2.99 on Wednesdays, so we asked why we weren't given this price. What the sign didn't say, and the *manager* didn't know, was that it's only *one" select kind of pie. So first they refunded us, started to charge us the sale price (1/2 of our original amount), and then had to charge us the original price again! Given that their sign is misleading, it would have been better customer service on their part to give us the sale price (and to change the darn sign!). On top of all of that, the refund from the first charge won't go through for a few days, so we're out that money until then. Overall, I would say that while the waitstaff is kind and friendly, this restaurant is not run in a very professional manner, and the pies are not worth seeking out--in fact, they're worth avoiding entirely.

Walked in the door and stood at the host stand for about five minutes. No one greeted us so we left. I can't eat at your restaurant if you don't even have someone to sit me at a table.

Had breakfast with friends today. Few people in restaurant so there should be no excuses for serving cold food and coffee, but is what we got. Service ok but food quality has slipped dramatically this year. American fries were not edible. They wanted $1 extra for raisin toast rather than white or wheat. C'mon man! This place needs a new chef or two.

Northwoods has been making fine beer for years and in 2009 the brewmaster recreated Walter's Beer. Walter's, Eau Claire's original regional brewery, closed down in 1991 and the beer has been unavailable since 1992. The new version made by Northwoods is a great full bodied Lager. Try it, you will love it. Food is good all around with friendly service. However, the bar staff has a tendancy to stand around and talk to each other vs. the guests -leaving many with empty glasses. This being Wisconsin, don't be afraid to raise your glass to get their attention.

This place has the potential to be a unique destination in the Chippewa Valley but falls flat. Went for a late brunch on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived at 11am and we were seated right away. However, a simple breakfast order for 4 people (French toast, hashbrowns, an omlette, nothing fancy) somehow took over an hour to make. We saw our waitress only sparingly and she would drop off whatever she was bringing and be gone before we could request a refill or the straws and silverware we were missing. The "coffee" was basically brown tinted water, probably the worst any of us had ever had. Overall the food was ok and service was meh. Not a return destination.

Come for the pie. Ignore the food. The beer? It's OK, but nothing to write home about. The service? Wow, can it be terrible. The Norske Nook has fine pie. We will get pies to go. I have had two slices and coffee for lunch, which is a mighty fine meal. The food is not up to Applebee's and the wait staff, on occasion, some of the worst I have ever seen. I felt so bad for one table I went and found the manager to get them service. Not Nucleus Cafe bad service, but a close second. The beer, brewed on premise, is no better than average. Not worth making a trip for.

Eau Claire staple, must try. I come to eau Claire a few times a year, and I was born and raised There. Every visit home is not complete without a bloody Mary And popcorn and appetizers at northwood, it's definitely been my favorite For the patio and service for about 13 years. Never had slow or unacceptable service. usually sit at the bar to see Lucas and Jarrod. This trip I was enamored by Stephanie, fantastic, friendly I will certainly be back. 5 stars for staff. And just as wonderful is food, drinks, atmosphere. If you see any complaints about this place they are probably Exaggerating. Such as I was unhappy with part of my food. You know what you ordered. Something could have been replaced, or maybe they ate almost all of Them, people can be quite ridiculous to save a penny. And when you are waiting for something you want it's ALWAYS "I waited 20 minutes for this or that" it was probably 3. Calm down. Of you actually waited 20 minutes for a refill you have to much free time. Go, eat, watch enjoy. I have never had bad service or food here.

They were out of half the beers on the menu and I got a tiny thimble of A1 for my steak...kinda lame

The only thing that wowed me about this visit was the pie. My burger was good, but awful small considering the price. The coleslaw was blah. I won't be hurrying back. There are a lot better options close by.

My husband and I ate lunch there today after driving down from Duluth to attend Rock Fest in Cadott. We planned on lunch there as we had tried the beer at local brew fests and really liked it. What a disappointing lunch! Got there at 12:30 and had a 25 min wait as they were fairly busy...no problem, we found a spot at the bar to have a beer and wait...and wait we did! Seriously understaffed in the bar, one girl working and a full bar. Waited almost 15 min to be served. At 1:15, we finally got a seat in the bar area at a table. We ordered an appetizer and our food...35 min later, still had nothing! Out waitress finally came over to apologize and tell us our appetizer had been comped for waiting so long. It was still another 1/2 hr before our burgers came too. Food was good, burgers had a bourbon glaze that was awesome and the cheese curds we had as an app were good too! Total time in the restaurant...2 1/2 hrs for couple of beers, an appetizer, and a couple burgers. Waaaaay too long in my book! I'd plan on coming back for a beer sometime, but probably not the food!

This location has always been the outlier. It's not called Norske Nook. It's in a mall. But after our last visit, I have to drop my rating. We stopped by for breakfast on our way to Chicago. It was completely dead. We were the only people there when we arrived and there were only three tables total (including ours) by the time we left. It took a few minutes for anyone to even realize we were there (we could have totally grabbed a bunch of stuff and walked out the door) and once we were seated and had placed our order, we could hear our waitress shouting to the cook that there was an order. So apparently he was not in the kitchen and had to be prodded to come cook our food. My omelet was OK but my husband's poached eggs were poached through so completely that the yolk actually looked like the center of a super hard hard boiled egg. Pale yellow. Hard to cut through with a fork. And when he put his fork into the second one, it actually made a popping sound and kind of exploded from the heat inside. Bits of egg white flew into the air near his face. We told our waitress and I speculated that the egg had been cooked in a microwave. They were formed into molded shapes -- I'm pretty sure they were, especially given the explosion issue. She claimed they weren't and didn't seem to think there was much of anything wrong. We asked to talk with the manager (Sean or Shaun, I think), who pretended to be sympathetic, repeated that the eggs were not poached in a microwave (malarkey) and didn't seem particularly apologetic at all. So we had to ask specifically if he could take a few bucks off the check to account for the eggs. He offered to take off $1. I realize that eggs are not the most expensive part of the plate, but that seemed low and petty. So we asked if he would take off more than $1. He agreed, went in the back, took his time bringing our check out, where we found he had taken off precisely $1.49. We gave up and paid the bill. This location has never been as good as the other Norskes but it has always served decent food and had that wonderful pie we love so much about all Norske locations. But service is sloppy, food is going down hill and apparently no one who works there gives a flying fig about service. I doubt we will be back.

The place: Standard pub/restaurant feel, with huge windows that show the beverages that they brew in house. Gives it character. The taste: Yum. We were just passing through driving to Milwaukee, and the gardenburger was delicious. We also shared a delightful burger and a slice of raspberry pie. Could have done with a little more crust on the pie, but as they're known for their pies...it was pretty tasty. My face: Happy that you can leave home with a whole pie - either a 9" (which is plenty big) for $11.99 or a 11" (I think) for $21.99-$25.99 ... plus a $6 "pie tin refundable deposit." As we were just passing through, we opted for the smaller pie. Including the $12 pie, the total bill for lunch for two was $35. Pretty reasonable.

This is also Norske Nook. Great place at night ask to be served by Dawn M. She is great st her job and cares about her customers. I have been patronizing the Nook in Osseo, WI. Since 1981 . The best pie anywhere.

Usually I would give Northwoods 3 or 4 stars. Service is usually good, slower, but good. The menu has a decent selection, there could be more selection but what they do offer is usually alright. If you are going to Northwoods I suggest not to do so for breakfast. Service was awfully slow (much slower than usual) and the poor waitress seemed very overwhelmed with her 3 tables. I ordered a medium rare steak. Big mistake. I think the cook may be confused as to what that means because when I got my steak it was still very cold on the inside and was not seasoned at all. I let the waitress know, she came back a short while later and said the cook could not finish my steak because he was so busy. Rough.
